The colored stone business today is awash in oiled gems, but few are aware of the widespread proliferation of this treatment and, most importantly, the remarkable transformation in appearance it may produce. In this program, Richard will demonstrate how the oiling of gemstones other than emerald is now extremely common and how it flies under the radar of many gem labs around the world. He will also detail simple techniques that can be used by any gemologist to detect this fraud.
