Schiffmann reports gemological observations on rubies from the Prilep area of Yugoslavia (now North Macedonia), describing the characteristics of the material and features useful in its identification. Particular attention is given to the appearance and internal characteristics of the corundum, including inclusions and other properties observed during examination. The study provides an early gemological description of ruby from this Balkan occurrence and documents material from a locality comparatively little represented in the gemological literature.
