A multi-volume German collection of accounts of notable voyages and travels by sea and land, translated from various European languages and illustrated with numerous engraved plates and maps. Published at Göttingen between 1750 and 1754, the series brought German readers accounts of exploration and travel in different parts of the world, combining geographical description with observations on peoples, customs, natural history, commerce and regional products. The volumes belong to the eighteenth-century tradition of compilations that disseminated European geographical and natural-historical knowledge through translated travel literature.
