An English translation by John Frampton of Nicolás Monardes’s writings on medicinal and other natural products newly introduced from the Spanish Americas. The work describes plants, drugs, resins, woods, oils, tobacco, and other substances, together with their origins, preparation, medicinal uses, and reputed virtues. It played an important role in transmitting Spanish and Indigenous American knowledge of New World natural products to English readers and is an important early source for the European reception of American materia medica.
