The final remarks by B. F. Martin in his April 1970 Journal of Gemmology study on rhodolite garnet (Vol. 12, No. 2), calling for further investigation into the subject, prompted a comparative study of rhodolite garnets of known Rhodesian origin. Twelve stones were selected for this purpose. It is hoped that the original author will not object to the reproduction of the main points from his study, which are presented again in tabular form for comparison with the results from the Rhodesian specimens.
