Among the stone ornaments discovered at Mundigak and preserved at the Musée Guimet, fragments of unfinished pieces, both unworked and worked raw materials, as well as production waste, point to a local manufacture distinguished by a wide variety of shapes and source materials; while the diversity of stones reflects the geological complexity of the region, it also reveals an interest in transforming different minerals into varied forms, implying technical knowledge of both the raw materials—ranging from hardness 1 to 7/8 on the Mohs scale—and the specific treatments applied to some of them before or during their shaping into small ornaments.
