Mark Zuckerberg arrived at Los Angeles Superior Court on Wednesday with the world watching. The Facebook founder and Meta CEO had been called to testify in a bellwether trial over social media addiction, ready to face mourning parents and defend his company’s actions on one of the most widely felt issues of the modern age. Bizarrely, Zuckerberg’s team turned the dour news moment into a showcase for Meta’s newfangled AI glasses. As the CEO approached the courthouse, he was mobbed by members of the media, who snapped photos and hollered questions. Someone claiming to be a process server even tried to hand papers to the executive. But dark-suited aides carved a path, with the two closest to Zuckerberg conspicuously wearing the Ray-Ban Meta glasses that the executive has proffered as an essential item in his vision for the future. Maybe it was an attempt to win some free publicity. Maybe they just really like the frames. Either way, the lasting images of this trial will now feature Meta’s controversial new product, which includes forward-facing cameras and speakers by each ear. The aides appeared to be wearing the Wayfarer model, not Meta’s more advanced Ran-Ban Display option with a visual display in the right lens. Still, the glasses were too techie for the court to ignore. CNBC reported that Judge Carolyn Kuhl specifically warned the room against using AI glasses to record Zuckerberg’s testimony. “If you have done that, you must delete that, or you will be held in contempt of the court,” the judge reportedly said. “This is very serious.”
