Studies address sculpture, imperial portraiture, inscriptions, monuments, and the adaptation of antique imagery to medieval political representation. Of particular relevance to gem history is an essay on classical motifs in Norman and Frederickian sculpture and glyptic art. Other contributions examine portraits of Frederick II and the Carroccio monument in Rome.
