Catalogues engraved gems dating from the eighteenth to the twentieth centuries in the Staatliche Münzsammlung München. The illustrated survey includes cameos, intaglios, larger reliefs, and glass casts, documenting the range of materials and forms represented in post-antique gem engraving. Much of the eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century material derives from the Steiglehner and Möhl collections, acquired for the royal coin cabinet through the involvement of the future King Ludwig I. These holdings encompass portraits, classical subjects, jewellery, and decorative ensembles, including works by prominent Italian gem engravers. Later acquisitions extend the survey to twentieth-century artists, particularly those associated with Munich. The catalogue brings together the objects’ artistic significance and collecting history, providing comparative material for the study of European glyptic art.
