Composed for Abū ’l-Fatḥ Khalīl Bahādur Khān, the work consists of an introduction on minerals and their origin followed by two sections: 20 chapters on 20 precious stones and seven chapters on metals. Numerous manuscripts survive, the earliest listed by Storey being dated 1472. The work was edited as Gauhar-nāmah by Minūchihr Sitūdah in 1956–57; its seventeenth chapter, dealing with lapis lazuli, was published with a German translation by Ritter, Ruska, and Winderlich in 1935.
