Cano’s Las Esmeraldas Sagradas is a novel centered on the emerald traditions of Colombia and the legendary Fura and Tena, figures closely associated with the emerald region of Boyacá. The title invokes the indigenous legend connecting Fura and Tena with the origin of Colombia’s emeralds and places the gemstone at the center of the narrative.
