Black jadeite jade, appearing on the Hong Kong market as bangles, beads and pendants, consists mainly of jadeite with small amounts of omphacitic pyroxene and accessory minerals. The colour of the jade is attributed to minute inclusions, largely of amorphous carbon with some metallic oxides and sulphides. In places the colour is patchy and the jade is colloquially known as black-skin-chicken jadeite.
